I wanted to finish off the monthly series of Jude’s updates with his final, 12-month, post. He is getting cuter and cuddlier by the day, and I’m not complaining! He’s only grown a little bit this past month, but his personality is changing and he’s really growing up fast! He seems so much older to me than Emery did at this age, but I expect that is pretty typical for a second child since he follows his sister’s example on everything. One of my favorite things I love about him right now is how much he LOVES to dance! Any time there is a tune playing or I start humming or singing, he’ll immediately get a huge grin on his face and start swaying his body back and forth. The kids also watch this channel on YouTube called Little Baby Bum (parents, take note–it is amazing!) that plays videos of nursery rhymes set to weird & colorful videos. It’s one of the few things I don’t mind listening to and it completely mesmerizes the kids! It’s fun to watch Jude watch it because as soon as certain songs come on, like “If You’re Happy and You Know It”, he’ll start clapping his hands immediately! He’ll also attempt the actions of “Head, Shoulders, Knees, & Toes” and “Itsy Bitsy Spider”. It’s adorable!
He’s much more adventurous than Emery was at his age too. Where Emery preferred to hang back and observe, Jude wants to be right in the middle of things. I just got called into nursery (yes, again…I don’t want to talk about it) and he’s not shy at all about playing with the older kids and sharing their toys. Emery, on the other hand, still just wants to grab a toy and play with it by herself for a little bit before joining the others. It’s been really interesting to watch how different they are. Emery never cared for cars or trucks or balls really, but that’s ALL Jude wants to play with. He’s such a boy! He loves to get on all fours and scoot his little cars around in a circle. It reminds me of watching home videos of my brother Trevor doing the same thing when he was little. (I also think Jude looks a lot like his baby pictures too, so we’ll see if that continues!) Jude is constantly climbing onto everything and getting into EVERYTHING, which is also very different from Emery. I had a pretty easy time with Monster. Once I put her down somewhere, I was pretty sure she’d stay there and just watch what was going on around her. Jude on the other hand won’t sit still for a second. Changing his diaper is a constant battle that Grant and I are always saying, “You do it!” over. And giving him a bath? Ughhh. It is the WORST. The second his little naked body touches the water, he squirms and splashes and just goes crazy. I’m not exaggerating when I say his baths last about 45 seconds. Any longer than that and he would flood the bathroom! We’ll let Emery, on the other hand, take baths for half an hour if she wants to. She just sits there calmly or lays down on her stomach and plays pretend with her bath toys. And she’s always been like that! Jude is such a spaz, he can’t not be moving.
And I think the last thing to note is that my little monkey is still such a HUGE “momma’s boy”. Any time I’m in the room he just whines for me to pick him up. It’s really endearing…at first, but quickly gets in the way when I have work to do! It also makes me sad because if Grant tries to hold him, he’ll just squirm and cry and reach towards me until I take him. Part of me loves it, but part of me wants him to grow out of it. (This is another area where the two kids differ because Emery is exactly the opposite! She much prefers Grant to me!)
Jude is a happy, cuddly, energetic little stud and we love him so much! Here’s some more pictures from his quick 12-month photo shoot (you can imagine how these must go, giving the description above) and then one last comparison of Jude and Emery, both at 12 months!
